Precision in Motion: Rudick Construction Executes Major Lift at Confidential Testing Facility

08, May, 2025

Earlier this month, we reached a major milestone at our Confidential Testing Facility. This project is one of the most technically demanding we have had to date. This project involved the lift and placement of a 251,000-pound pre-poured concrete roof slab at the facility. To achieve this lift we focused on thorough planning and stayed in constant communication with our trade partners.

To position a precast slab within just 1/8 of an inch in every direction, including elevation, our team leaned on months of strategic planning and coordination to make sure everything went smoothly in the field. Using a Davis 925T crane and precise laser alignment based on a single reference point inside the structure, we were able to put our detailed preconstruction models into action on site.

What set this lift apart was the sheer technical challenge. Setting such a massive slab within a tolerance as tight as 1/16” to 1/8” not only required advanced equipment, but also strategic teamwork and communication. The collaboration between our preconstruction and field teams, Davis Crane Company, United Mechanical, Alamo Steel, Deem Erectors, MDS Aero, and our design partners at Calahan and Freeman Architects and Stubbs Engineering was key to making it all come together.

Safety played a major role in this lift. As one of our core values, it was built into every step of the process. Following our company-wide safety program, we started with thorough planning, identifying potential hazards, and getting everyone on the same page. Through detailed safety briefings, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and pre-task planning done well ahead of time, we made sure every crew member knew their responsibilities and the risks involved.

We are proud to share that this milestone was completed a full week ahead of schedule. It marked the first major milestone of the project, and our team delivered it with both precision and efficiency.

We’d like to recognize the talented professionals whose hard work made this possible.
