Rudick Construction Group (RCG) is proud to announce the groundbreaking of the Berchmans Academy Gymnasium on May 20, 2026, marking the start of construction on a new gymnasium and dining facility that will anchor the new all-boys campus for Berchmans Academy of the Sacred Heart.

Sited across an iconic oak alley on the Academy of the Sacred Heart’s two-hundred-year-old campus. The building will house a full gymnasium floor supporting basketball, volleyball, and multi-sport use, alongside a dining and flex space that extends the building’s daily use well beyond athletics. A shared core of concessions, restrooms, locker rooms, coaches’ offices, and an entry lobby will serve both spaces, as well as the school’s nearby baseball, football, and soccer fields.

Notably, the gymnasium will be the first mass timber gym in Louisiana, built with regionally sourced Southern yellow pine glulam. Overhead, a full wood ceiling with half-bow trusses introduces a gentle curve designed to improve acoustics, while a clerestory above the bleachers and a fully glazed “front porch” wall keep the gym floor connected to natural light and the outdoors, a relationship central to the school’s ethos.

Construction is anticipated to be complete in Summer 2027. Rudick Construction Group is honored to partner with Berchmans Academy of the Sacred Heart and SO Studio to bring this landmark project to life.
